On giving candles. A small guide to gifting by hand.
A candle is one of the few gifts that asks nothing of the person receiving it. It does not need to fit, it does not need to be assembled, and it does not sit in a cupboard out of obligation. It simply waits to be lit on an evening they choose. That is why it travels so well as a gift, for a housewarming, a thank you, a quiet birthday, or no reason at all.
The trick to giving one well is to choose the form before the scent. A scent is personal and easy to get slightly wrong; a beautiful object is harder to argue with. A sculptural, hand-poured candle reads as considered the moment it is unwrapped, and the scent becomes a small second surprise rather than the whole gamble. If you are unsure, our unscented pieces and our lighter scents are the safest, most generous choices.
Every Éluvane order is wrapped by hand and tied with linen, so there is nothing extra to buy and nothing plastic to throw away. You can have it sent straight to the person, with a note, and we will message you when it is on its way. We courier across South Africa, and there is free collection in Midrand if you would rather hand it over yourself.
If you are choosing for someone, our gift sets pair pieces that belong together, and the full shop holds both the candles and the cast plaster homeware. Take your time. The object you choose slowly tends to be the one they keep.
