Care Guide
Care for your piece.
A well-kept candle burns cleaner, longer, and more beautifully.
First burn
The first burn sets the candle's memory. Light the candle and allow the wax to melt to the full diameter of the vessel before extinguishing - usually 2-3 hours for our standard pillars, longer for larger sculptural forms. Skipping this step creates a tunnel through the centre that the candle will follow for the rest of its life.
Trim the wick
Trim the cotton wick to about 5 mm before every burn. A trimmed wick burns clean, with a stable flame and almost no soot. Long or curled wicks flicker, smoke, and shorten the life of the candle.
Storage
Keep candles in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. South African sun can fade pigment and soften the wax. Store sculptural pieces upright on a flat surface; cover with the dust cover if travelling.
Safety
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets, and away from curtains and other flammable surfaces. Always burn on a heat-safe surface. Stop burning when about 10 mm of wax remains in the vessel.
