A good handmade gift is simple. It is something made with care that the person will actually use. At Éluvane Atelier we make two kinds, hand-poured candles and cast plaster homeware. Both are made by hand in small batches in Midrand, South Africa. This is a short guide to picking one.

Gifts by occasion

• Housewarming. A candle for the new home, or a plaster trinket dish for keys by the door.
• Wedding or engagement. A gift set, or a candle paired with a plaster tray.
• Thank you. A small candle says it well and is easy to post.
• Birthday. Let them choose a scent, or pick a sculptural shape they will keep on show.
• Corporate or client gifts. Gift sets work well in numbers. Message us for larger orders.

Gifts by budget

• Under R150. A small hand-poured candle, or a cast plaster trinket dish.
• R150 to R300. A medium candle, a plaster vessel or tray, or a small set.
• R300 and up. A gift set, or a candle with a plaster piece to set it on.

Gifts for different people

• For someone who loves a calm home. A soft-scented candle in a quiet shape.
• For a host. A plaster tray or dish they can use straight away.
• For a couple. A candle and a plaster piece together, for the shelf or the table.
• For a hard-to-buy-for friend. A gift card, so they pick what they like.

Why a handmade gift

Every piece is made by hand in small batches, so each one is a little different. Our candles use a natural blend of soy, beeswax and coconut wax, with a cotton wick. Never paraffin. Our homeware is cast in gypsum plaster and finished by hand in soft tones. These are objects made to be lived with, not saved.

• We deliver by courier across South Africa, usually within 1 to 5 business days.
• Delivery is free on orders over R450. Free collection in Midrand.
• Every order can be gift wrapped.
