Handmade candle and homeware gifts in South Africa. A simple guide.

A good handmade gift is simple. It is something made with care that the person will actually use. At Éluvane Atelier we make two kinds, hand-poured candles and hand-cast eco resin homeware. Both are made by hand in small batches in Midrand, South Africa. This is a short guide to picking one.

Gifts by occasion

• Housewarming. A candle for the new home, or an eco resin trinket dish for keys by the door.
• Wedding or engagement. A gift set, or a candle paired with an eco resin tray.
• Thank you. A small candle says it well and is easy to post.
• Birthday. Let them choose a scent, or pick a sculptural shape they will keep on show.
• Corporate or client gifts. Gift sets work well in numbers. Message us for larger orders.

Gifts by budget

• Under R150. A small hand-poured candle, or a hand-cast eco resin trinket dish.
• R150 to R300. A medium candle, an eco resin vessel or tray, or a small set.
• R300 and up. A gift set, or a candle with an eco resin piece to set it on.

Gifts for different people

• For someone who loves a calm home. A soft-scented candle in a quiet shape.
• For a host. An eco resin tray or dish they can use straight away.
• For a couple. A candle and an eco resin piece together, for the shelf or the table.
• For a hard-to-buy-for friend. A gift card, so they pick what they like.

Why a handmade gift

Every piece is made by hand in small batches, so each one is a little different. Our moulded candles use a natural blend of soy, beeswax and coconut wax, with a cotton wick, and candles poured into jars or our homeware are pure soy. Never paraffin. Our homeware is cast in eco resin and finished by hand in soft tones. These are objects made to be lived with, not saved.

Delivery, wrapping and gift cards

• Candles leave our studio within 1-2 business days, and homeware and vessel candles within 2-3. The courier then takes 1-2 business days in Gauteng and 3-5 elsewhere in South Africa.
• Delivery is free on orders over R550. Free collection in Midrand.
• Every order can be gift wrapped.
